I love the VIKINGS. I have purchased all 3 seasons. The amazing adherence to historical detail especially as seen in the attack on Paris sequence was far beyond what I expected. I have attempted to distill the myth that the VIKINGS is just a another action series. The complexities of the rise to power of Ragnar from a visionary believing in a primitive compass to take to him new world was explored on all level of including his emotional conflict with moving against the king to become a king himself to grieving the loss of his friend the Catholic monk. Ragnar deciding to be Baptized to be able to go with his friend to a Christian heaven rather than Valhalla which would have been his expected reward as a warrior set his people on a the path of a new faith despite the fear of what his baptism meant as it was seen as a desertion of the Norse gods. He left his culturally accepted ideals to become completely his own man. There is so much more in this series including the high status of warrior women who were also Viking invaders. The VIKINGS maintains a high level of authenticity and sensitivity to story line and the characters as they would have lived in this time period.
